Head of Patrol Police Dept: Protesters used some kind of gas; pepper-sprayed our employee
Vazha Siradze, Head of the Interior Ministry’s Patrol Police Department, responded to the question of why the police wore masks during yesterday’s rally [against the transparency bill], saying “There were numerous facts when the protesters used some kind of gas and pepper-sprayed one of our employees. As per the law, several people were apprehended.”
“When people are artificially blocking one of the central roads, it makes it harder for the police and other services to act promptly,” Siradze explained, adding that police, emergency, and fire-rescue services were responding within their capability.
