Nearly 8 million people in the UK could be hospitalised during the coronavirus epidemic over the next 12 months, Guardian reports.

The official document, seen by the Guardian says health chiefs expect the virus to circulate for another 12 months. Nearly 80 % of British residents will be infected with COVID-19 over that time.

The document also said that an estimated 500,000 of the 5 million people can be infected as they work in essential services and critical infrastructure. The 5 million include 1m NHS staff and 1.5 million in social care.
