GOC says government proposes declaration of Orthodoxy as state religion
Andria Jaghmaidze, Head of the Public Relations Department at the Georgian Orthodox Church (GOC) said the government proposed the possible declaration of Orthodoxy as the state religion, however, the exact formulation is not finalized.
“We have lately seen the government accentuating national values and traditions, leading peace policy and doing much for the church. The government wishes to strengthen the role and status of the church and promote the protection of Christian values and traditions.
As for formulating on declaration of the state religion, this is crucial but not so acute and strict. The main aspect here is to find the formulation which will promote the aforesaid issues,” he said.
According to Andria Jaghmaidze, the GOC is considering the issue which will take time.
