Georgian Orthodox Church today marks Holy Friday, also known as Red Friday, a day when Orthodox Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
This day is the hardest among the days of Holy Week that precede Easter Sunday. A symbolic ritual of the removal of Jesus Christ’s body from the cross will be performed at churches.
No services are conducted at temples as a sign of respect for Jesus Christ’s sacrifice to save mankind. The parishioners dye eggs in red and bake Paska, a special Easter bread.
