GOC celebrates Virgin Mary Day

The Georgian Orthodox Church (GOC) celebrates Virgin Mary Day (Mariamoba in Georgian) on August 28.

The day, known as the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commemorates the assumption of the Blessed Virgin into heaven.

All churches throughout Georgia hold special religious services in connection with this day. A festive liturgy is held at the Sioni Cathedral in Tbilisi.

Virgin Mary Day is among the biggest 12 religious holidays in the Orthodox world. It is a public holiday in Georgia.
