Givi Mikanadze calls on int'l organizations to examine local observers' neglect of violations against GD

Givi Mikanadze, the parliamentary majority member, has accused the opposition and its affiliates of undertaking radical actions that directly interfere with the pre-election campaign of the Georgian Dream party.

During today’s briefing, Mikanadze emphasized numerous instances of damage to pre-election banners belonging to Georgian Dream, as well as the lack of progress in launching their election campaign videos.

He highlighted the impediments faced by the Georgian Dream campaign and cited specific violations:

“On October 16, in Sarpi village, Khelvachauri municipality, Mamuka Jevaishi, a member of the Khelvachauri council from the United National Movement, along with his associates, vandalized two election billboards belonging to Georgian Dream. The Khelvachauri headquarters of Georgian Dream reported this incident to 112, prompting a formal investigation into the damage to property.

It is evident to the public that this obstruction of the Georgian Dream pre-election campaign has been systematic since the onset of the election period. Noteworthy violations include:

On October 15, in Kutaisi, United National Movement leaders Khatia Dekanoidze and Gigi Ugulava damaged Georgian Dream billboards, constituting property damage.

On October 5, in the Chugureti district, activist Salome Timchenko ignited a fire on the GD symbol and burned its flag.

On September 8, activists from the Ahali party, led by Maia Kopaleishvili and Ana Gogoladze, forcibly tore down ruling party posters in the airport settlement.

In early September, opposition activists in Saburtalo, Varketili, Nadzaladevi, and Didube repeatedly affixed, tore down, and damaged GD posters.

Furthermore, we would like to remind the public that television stations owned by Khazaradze, Gvaramia, and Kezerashvili—specifically Mtavari Channel, TV Pirveli, and Formula—have failed to broadcast portions of GD video clips, despite a directive from the Communications Commission and a court ruling. For over five hours, they deprived us of essential advertising opportunities.

Despite numerous appeals, local monitoring organizations have continued to overlook violations against GD. We urge these organizations to incorporate the pre-election violations we have reported in their interim or summary reports posted on the Georgian Dream Facebook page.

We also call upon international monitoring organizations to assess and include the concerning trend of local monitoring agencies disregarding these violations in their reports,” stated Givi Mikanadze.
