Giuli Alasania: UNM to illuminate Georgia again
Giuli Alasania: UNM to illuminate Georgia again

“Today is an emotional day for me. Seeing the darkened streets of Zugdidi reminded me of the 1990s when people burned tyres just to cook dinner and received electricity for only one hour every two days. Then, in 2003, the United National Movement came to power and illuminated the country. I believe they will do so again,” said Giuli Alasania, mother of former, now jailed Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

Alasania emphasized the historic significance of the upcoming elections on October 26.

“The UNM has extensive experience in bringing light to our country, and I am confident they will return with a new program and the insights they’ve gained to illuminate Georgia once more.”

“We are nearing the finish line; very little time remains until October 26. These elections are historic, as they will determine the future of our statehood. I believe that the people of Georgia will make the right choice. Our nation chose the West many centuries ago, around the first century, when Christianity was embraced, and private land ownership was established. These two principles have sustained our state for centuries.”

On October 26, she stated, “The only choice will be made.”

She recounted how her son had once called for unity within the community as a vital condition for survival.

“Unfortunately, this unity did not materialize as he envisioned. Many people recognized Mikheil Saakashvili’s name and wanted to support him, but they were often misled, publicly claiming allegiance while voting for other parties. Even now, misunderstandings persist,” the jailed ex-president’s mother stated.

Alasania encouraged everyone to recognize that “Mikheil Saakashvili and his team are number 5 on the ballot.” She concluded with heartfelt wishes for victory to those committed to preserving Georgia’s statehood.
