Gitanas Nausėda pledges Lithuania not to recognize occupation of South Ossetia and Abkhazia
Lithuanian president Gitanas Nausėda said Lithuania would not recognize the occupation of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
President Nausėda paid a field visit along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL), in the Khurvaleti area. EUMM Head Marek Szczygieł hosted the Lithuanian president and briefed him on security developments on the ground.
“I would like to say, I came here to say that Lithuania will not recognize occupation of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and of course, another issue was very important for me to see how that people are living here. What is the situation? What are the humanitarian conditions here, and unfortunately, I see broken lives, broken lives by the geopolitical decisions of some politicians just to occupy some territories of an independent state, in this case, Georgia. I saw that people are cut off many possibilities, some of them are cut off the possibility to get the pension, to have the water supply and access to the school is limited and complicated too,” the Lithuanian president underscored.
The President of Lithuania arrived today in Tbilisi. As part of a two-day visit, Gitanas Nausėda will hold meetings with the Georgian President, Prime Minister, Parliament Speaker, and the Patriarch.
