Girchi-More Freedom regrets Commissioner Varhelyi helps GD maintain its pro-European image

The EU Commissioner stated that the draft law on de-oligarchization must first be sent to the Venice Commission, implying that he is unaware that the Georgian Dream refuses to send it. Then he claimed it does not relate to a specific individual; he did not mention Bidzina [Ivanishvili], in contrast to the European Parliament, Girchi-More Freedom leader Zurab Japaridze posted on Facebook.

Japaridze believes it is unfortunate that someone who lacks sufficient information, deliberately or accidentally, is supporting the Georgian Dream to maintain a pro-European image.

“I listened to the European Commissioner, who stated that the draft law on de-oligarchization must first be submitted to the Venice Commission, implying that he is unaware that the Georgian Dream has refused to submit it. Unlike the European Parliament, he did not name Bidzina when he stated that it does not pertain to a particular individual. Then, in response to a question concerning de-oligarchization and political prisoners, he stated he does not have a thorough understanding of what is going on in Georgia.

He stated that progress in the judiciary is visible. Perhaps he perceived improvement in Murusidze-Gvritishvili’s reappointment to the High Council of Justice.

He suggested that the opposition collaborate with the government. Just as several European politicians wanted Zelenskyy to speak with Putin before the war…

It is highly unfortunate that a person who, in his own words, is not highly conversant, deliberately or accidentally, is helping a group of dishonest people operating under the alias of the Georgian Dream and pouring a lot of resources into the anti-Western campaign, to keep their “pro-European” image for a while longer.

After one year, there will be no [EU membership candidate] status under Bidzina. Nothing will happen in that direction as long as they remain in power. On the contrary, we will drift further away from Europe,” Zurab Japaridze posted.
