Girchi leader is sceptical of Russian aid promises from Lavrov and Putin

“We are well aware of Russia, Lavrov, and Putin, and we should not place our trust in their promises of aid,” stated Iago Khvichia, the leader of the Girchi party, in response to Sergey Lavrov’s recent remarks indicating that “Russia is ready to help Georgia, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia normalize relations.”

Khvichia noted that Lavrov’s comments appeared to be a reaction to statements made by the Georgian government.

“If this flirtation had previously gone unaddressed, they now seem to believe it merits some attention,” he remarked.

“Even in their offers, Georgians have been insulted. The notion of cultivating good neighbourly relations among the three states is offensive to the Georgian public. All the messages conveyed about us are disrespectful to the people of Georgia,” Khvichia added.
