Giorgi Vashadze supports Zourabichvili’s initiative: Ready to agree on election date and conditions through only legitimate institution
Giorgi Vashadze, a leader of the coalition Unity-National Movement, stated that the OSCE/ODIHR conclusion has confirmed the need for new elections, as the previous ones lack legitimacy.
Vashadze expressed support for Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili’s position and called for prompt action to set an election date.
“We are ready to agree on the election date and conditions through the only legitimate institution. The OSCE/ODIHR conclusion and the international community’s response make it clear that these elections are not recognized as legitimate. The Georgian Dream has stepped outside the constitutional framework, acting as a self-proclaimed government. To restore constitutional order, it is essential to hold new elections, release political prisoners, and drop all politically motivated charges,” Vashadze said.
He added that opposition parties remain committed to working collaboratively and emphasized that a consensus on the election timeline and rules should be reached this week.
President Zourabichvili, speaking at a rally on Rustaveli Avenue on December 22, remarked: “Ivanishvili should come to the palace, and I am ready to discuss scheduling the elections. The date must be agreed upon by the 29th.”
