Giorgi Gakharia: Our task is to manage the process, get adapted and control. No country can defeat the global pandemic on its own
Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia held and led a regular meeting of the Inter-Agency Coordination Council of the Government of Georgia today.
Members of the Council reviewed the next stage of restrictions being lifted from today. Namely, all types of restaurants have resumed operation and inter-city transportation started to operate. Also, all those hotels have been re-opened, which were checked by the Labor Inspection.
The necessity of tight adherence to the established standards and regulations has been stressed once again, including the use of face masks and social distancing, so that risk of spread gets avoided. Execution of preventive measures and established standards will be controlled by the relevant public institutions.
“False wording is often heard as if Georgia has defeated the virus. No country on its own can defeat this virus. It is a global pandemic and impossible to be defeated by any country on its own. Similar to the economic crisis, it cannot be defeated by any individual country. Our main goal is to manage the process, get adapted and control. The only thing we can do is to control the risks and spread of the virus. The main goal is to control the borders and penetration within the country; quick detection and quick treatment. Same applies to the economy. None of the countries on their own, especially economies of our size, will be able to generate the internal demand. That is why it is impossible to talk about tackling the crisis in the economic dimension by individual countries. We depend on global tendencies here as well,” noted the Prime Minister of Georgia at the Inter-Agency Coordination Council of the Government of Georgia.
Members of the Council also discussed the following phases of restrictions to be lifted, which will be enforced from June 15, 2020. They will cover the resumption of domestic tourism, along with the passenger mobility by train within the country. It was noted that it is essential to demonstrate the greatest caution, to minimize the potential deterioration of the epidemic situation.
Quarantine set in two villages of Bolnisi Municipality – Mushevan and Getta – remain valid. Relevant specialists of the National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health of Georgia (NCDC) are carrying out respective medical procedures there.
As for the overall epidemic situation throughout the country, 810 confirmed cases of infection with a novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) are recorded in the country as of today. Out of this number, 683 individuals have recovered. Three individuals have been flown to Georgia from overseas for medical treatment. COVID-19 has led to the loss of 13 lives.
Currently, 2 915 individuals remain in the quarantine, while 237 are under supervision at hospitals of the country.
