Georgia’s unity is a goal, for which generations will live, work and definitely will reach, – Giorgi Gakharia, Minister of Internal Affairs stated at the memorial of heroes fallen for Georgia’s territorial integrity, at Heroes’ Square in Tbilisi.
“September 27 is the most tragic day of Georgia’s recent history. Everyone understands that this war was not against Georgia. It was a war against Georgian and the Abkhaz people”, – Minister said.
Twenty-five years passed after fall of Sokhumi. Georgia commemorates the 25th anniversary of fall of Sokhumi. Due to the day, national flags are lowered at buildings of state institutions across Georgia.
Military confrontation in Abkhazia began on August 14, 1992. Military activities lasted for 13 months and 13 days and ended with the fall of Sokhumi on September 27, 1993.
