GFF calls for equal recognition of all team members in Presidential Awards
The Georgian Football Federation has issued a statement addressing the recent information released by the President’s administration regarding awards.
According to the Federation, the original list submitted for the Order of Honour by the Prime Minister, which included the entire composition of the national team, coaching staff, administrative staff, and the management of the Football Federation, was published with an incomplete composition for unknown reasons.
The Federation emphasized it was unacceptable to divide team members and place their contributions in unequal conditions, especially during this historic period for Georgian football.
“Teamwork, professionalism, and the collective efforts of everyone involved have been fundamental to our success.
Therefore, we believe it is essential to recognize the entire team’s efforts equally. The Georgian national team, set to debut at the European Championship on June 18 in Dortmund, will be represented by those who have tirelessly worked on and off the field to achieve this milestone.
During the award ceremony planned by the President in September, the team will only participate if all members included in the list submitted originally were recognized for their contributions. The main achievement and reward for the Federation is competing in the European Championship, and the priority is to represent Georgia with a united team,” the GFF states.
The Federation expressed gratitude to those who have supported them and wished success to the national team at the European Championship. This response follows the presidential administration’s statement on June 13, announcing the awarding of members of the national football team and federation representatives, with the ceremony scheduled for September.
However, it later emerged that President Salome Zourabichili did not award 19 of the 53 nominated representatives. On June 16, the President’s administration issued another statement claiming that speculations about the decrees were deliberate attempts to discredit the President.
