German Embassy: We closely monitor trials of demonstrators with Western partners
The German Embassy in Georgia has expressed concern over the persecution of individuals defending their fundamental rights, stating that such actions undermine democracy, the judiciary, and the rule of law in the country.
In a statement, the embassy highlighted its close monitoring of the ongoing trials against demonstrators, including Avtandil Kuchava and Davit Gogilashvili.
“We attended their trials at the Tbilisi City Court last week alongside our European, American, and British partners. We are closely observing whether the principles of the rule of law are upheld during the proceedings. The detainees face charges of disobeying law enforcement demands, though many were also victims of excessive police violence during the protests. The deliberate persecution of people defending their fundamental rights undermines democracy, the judiciary, and the rule of law in Georgia,” the statement noted.
