EU to serve basis for peace, prosperity in Georgia, German Ambassador says
Germany has been by Georgia’s side in 1918, 1991, and 1992, and we are by your side now. Let’s move towards the European Union together, said German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, at the Embassy during a reception in connection with the German Unity Day.
According to him, the EU is the basis of peace, stability and prosperity for Germany, and the EU is now available to Georgia as well.
“We are here today in Tbilisi, celebrating the day of German Unity. It happened on October 3, 1990, and it was a day of great historical significance for the whole of Europe. It was the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was the end of the Iron Curtain that was across Europe. For Germany and other European states, it was the end of the presence of Soviet troops, Russian troops on their territory. It was the beginning of democracy and freedom also for Germans in East Germany. The secret to all that framework was the European Union. The European Union is the basis of our peace, stability, prosperity and freedom. The European Union is now available to Georgia. That is the significance of this day also for Georgia. Germany has been by Georgia’s side in 1918, 1991, and 1992, and we are by your side now. Let’s move towards the European Union together,” the German Ambassador declared.
