In the II quarter of 2023, the unemployment rate in Georgia decreased by 1.4 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and equaled 16.7 percent, the National Statistics Service (GeoStat) reported.
In the II quarter of 2023, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the number of hired employees increased by 48.7 thousand persons (5.6%) and reached 916.7 thousand, while the number of self-employed increased by 9.0 thousand (2.2%) and equaled to 410.2 thousand. In the same period, the number of unemployed decreased by 14.6 thousand (5.2%) and equaled to 266.9 thousand.
In the II quarter of 2023, the labour force participation rate (share of the labour force in the total population aged 15 and older) increased by 1.6 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and became 53.2 percent, while the employment rate increased by 2.1 percentage points and amounted to 44.3 percent.
The labour force participation rate in urban settlements increased by 1.0 percentage points, in rural settlements – by 2.4 percentage points compared to the previous year, while the employment rate increased in urban settlements by 2.1 percentage points, in rural areas – by 2.0 percentage points and equaled 44.9 and 43.4 percent, respectively.
In the second quarter of 2023, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the share of hired employed in the total number of employed increased by 0.7 percentage points and equaled 69.1 percent.
