As of January 1, 2024, Georgia’s population is recorded at 3,694,600, reflecting a 1.1% decrease from the previous year, the National Statistics Agency reported.
This decline is attributed to a negative natural increase of -2,542 and a negative migration balance of -39,207.
The overall population density in Georgia is 64.6 people per square kilometre. The capital Tbilisi ranks as the most densely populated city, with 2,495.9 residents per square kilometre. This is followed by Adjara, with a density of 125.2; Shida Kartli, with 71.2; and Imereti, with 68.9. In contrast, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti are the least densely populated regions, with just 5.7 residents per square kilometre.
According to the report, 61% of Georgia’s population lives in urban areas, with Tbilisi alone accounting for nearly one-third of the country’s total population.
