GeoStat: In 2nd quarter of 2023, the largest number of visitors came from Turkey
In the II quarter of 2023, the number of arrivals of international non-resident travellers1 on the territory of Georgia equalled 1.7 million, which is 57.4 percent higher compared to the data from the same period of the previous year. Most of the incomes, 46.4 percent, were made by travellers of 31-50 age group, the National Statistics Service (GeoStat) reported.
The number of visits by international visitors from the above-mentioned number made up 1.5 million, which is 58.7 percent higher compared to the data from the same period of 2022.
In the II quarter of 2023, the number of international visitors equalled to 1.2 million which is 58.1 percent higher compared to the data from the same period of the previous year. In the reporting period, international visitors made 1.1 million tourist-type visits, which is 44.8 percent higher compared to the data from the same period of the previous year. The chart below shows the distribution of visits made by international visitors by the type of visit.
According to GeoStat, 73.5 percent of international visitors were only tourists. The share of excursionists amounted to 22.6 percent, while 3.9 percent of visitors were both tourists and same-day visitors.
In II quarter of 2023, the largest number of visitors (290.8 thousand visitors) was from Turkey, which amounts to 24.0 percent of the total number of visitors. On second place is the Russian Federation with 22.1% share and on third place – is Armenia with 12.4% share. Correspondingly, the largest number of visits were made by the citizens of Turkey (366.1 thousand), the Russian Federation (320.8 thousand), and Armenia (214.6 thousand).
In II quarter of 2023, the purpose of the majority of visits (51.5 percent) was holiday, leisure and recreation.
The majority of visits comes on Tbilisi and Adjara A/R, 709.3 thousand and 661.8 thousand accordingly. The chart below illustrates the distribution of visits by the visited regions.
In II quarter of 2023, the average number of nights spent during the visits equalled to 4.8 nights, which is 22.3 percent lower than the figure indicated in II quarter of 2022 (6.2 nights). 73.9 percent of visits was repeating visit. The chart below shows the distribution of visits by the level of satisfaction in II quarter of 2023.
The expenditures during the visits made in II quarter of 2023 equalled to 3.4 billion GEL, which is 49.1 percent higher compared to the data from the same period of the previous year. Average expenditure on the visit decreased by 6.1 percent compared to II quarter of 2022 and amounted to 2 292.0 GEL.
