Georgian President says not politicians but relevant state agencies to cast light on truth and lie
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili echoed recent developments in Georgia, urging everyone “to be responsible.”
The statement came after former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili earlier today released a video on his Facebook page saying he is in Batumi, Georgia.
However, ruling team lawmakers and the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) pledge that “Mikheil Saakashvili did not cross Georgia’s state border.”
Zourabichvili says when the country crucially needs peace to hold free and fair elections tomorrow, “unrest is circulating in the country.”
Incumbent President believes “not politicians but the relevant state agencies are obliged to make remarks, calm society and bring evidence to shed light on truth and lie.”
“Mockery and scoffing are not the answer when some people question the effectiveness of state structures in the country. The state is responsible for the prevention of destabilization and tensions during the pre-election period, thwart polarization. Holding a peaceful and free electoral environment is in the government’s hands.
The time for civil strife has passed. I believe it will never come back as our citizens are more vigilant than politicians. I stand with them, not on any street or square, but on the side of Constitutional order and a peaceful future,” Zourabishvili underscored.
