Georgian President does not rule out reviewing 'rather liberal visa policy' with Russia

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Monday said, “the entry of Russian citizens is truly a challenge.” She does not exclude reviewing “a rather liberal visa policy,” but “the move should be taken by the government.”

“The entry of Russian citizens into Georgia is really a challenge. I would call it a challenge rather than a threat. Former Georgian people are returning to their homeland in the wake of recent Russian events. There are also Russian citizens, who visit Georgia for a variety of reasons,” she added.

The President believes the public should be more informed that “all control measures are in place and there is no threat.” In this regard, Zourabichvili emphasised the necessity for “greater communication.”
