Georgian PM says state takes care of inmates

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday stressed that “our state takes care of prisoners as much as possible, [and] this is the signature of our humane policy.”

The Prime Minister stated in his presentation of the annual report that under the leadership of several ministers since 2012, the penitentiary system has undergone radical changes, and the current minister, Rati Bregadze, has many initiatives that would further enhance the lives of prisoners.

Garibashvili also praised the government for its “active work,” leading Georgia to win the 2008 Russia-Georgia war-related cases in the courts of Strasbourg and The Hague. The PM stressed it was “the merit of our government and our civil servants.”
