“We have very close cooperation with Lithuania in the context of European integration. Lithuania’s contribution to Georgia’s rapprochement with the EU is invaluable. Lithuania has been supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and our country’s rapprochement with the EU“,- Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said at a conference for press with Lithuanian colleague Saulius Skvernelis.
“We talked about the difficult situation in the occupied territories of Georgia, which once again confirms the need for security and human rights protection mechanisms on the ground.
The focus was on Russia’s recent steps towards actual annexation of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and Tskhinvali regions. We also talked about ethnic discrimination against the Georgian population living in the occupied regions.
Special emphasis was about Geneva International Discussions and the importance of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia. I would like to emphasize once again that Georgian government wants peaceful resolution of the conflict“.
As Prime Minister noted, at the meeting with the Lithuanian counterpart, they discussed important regional transport projects, the joint implementation of which will increase the transit potential of countries and facilitate new markets.
“We have also discussed the prospect of developing a new Anaklia Deep Sea Port and the prospect of establishing transport links between Anaklia’s new port and port of Klaipeda.
In the last few years, the number of Lithuanian visitors in Georgia is constantly growing, which greatly facilitates direct air traffic between Kutaisi and Vilnius.
It should be noted that the Lithuanian government annually employs state scholarships, and now more than 200 Georgian students are studying in Lithuania’s higher education institutions. I am sure that 200 young people, who will return, will become Lithuanian cultural ambassadors in Georgia.
We have very close and close cooperation with Lithuania in the context of European integration.
Lithuania’s contribution to Georgia’s rapprochement with the EU is invaluable. Lithuania’s strong support for NATO integration is also very important“, -said Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
