Georgian PM Instructs Minister of Finance to revisit the eligibility criteria for targeted social allowances
The Ministry of Finance should be instructed to revisit the eligibility criteria and list of people benefiting from social allowances to see what else may be done by the State to provide greater care and social support, announced Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Executive Government Meeting today.
In the opinion of the Head of Government of Georgia, irrespective of the comparatively positive trends in the economy of the country, shock caused by the pandemic will prevail at least by the end of the year.
“Notwithstanding the comparatively positive trends, which are witnessed in the economy of the country nowadays, shock caused by the pandemic will prevail at least till the year-end. Thus, we should revisit every eligible social group to the extent possible to identify households with special needs. We should mobilize resources to support our citizens. I also wish to stress that social allowances designed by the Government of Georgia have been found beneficial by 721 000 as of today” concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia.
