PM congratulates Georgians on candidate status: From today, Georgia is European state
“With great pride and great joy, I congratulate you on the historic decision that Georgia has become a candidate country for EU membership. I want to congratulate each citizen on a historic day. This is truly a victory for our nation and our people,” the PM stated.
The Prime Minister thanked the EU leaders for backing Georgia’s candidate status, saying “This is truly well-deserved status that our government has earned for our country and our people. We fought, we won.”
“I’d want to thank Mr. Oliver Verhey, who has been involved from the beginning and has been one of the primary supporters together with Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen, and Mr. Charles Michel, who has just phoned me and personally congratulated me on this historic victory, and I also have the honor to convey his congratulations to the Georgian people.
I would like to especially congratulate today’s historic victory to each member of our team, the government, thousands of civil servants, the parliament, our party, the ruling team, each member who made a worthy contribution to the achievement of this great, historic victory.
From today, Georgia is a European state, a European country, and Georgia is an EU candidate country,” Garibashvili asserted.
For the record, on November 8, the European Commission issued the recommendation for the European Council to grant Georgia the European Union membership candidate status.
