The members of the permanent Delegation of the Parliament of Georgia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Givi Mikanadze and Khatia Tsilosani, took part in the debates of the PACE winter session in Strasbourg.
Givi Mikanadze, who was re-elected as the Chair of the PACE sub-committee on the implementation of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights for the second term, focused on the changes in the Georgian penitentiary system.
According to Mikanadze, the positive observations in the report of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) “clearly reflect the Georgian government’s commitment to respect the rights of prisoners.”
Khatia Tsilosani participated in the debate on “Globalization in times of crisis and war”. In her remark, Tsilosani said: “Even though COVID-19, Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine and disruption of the supply chain affected the Georgian economy; we were able to maintain stable economic growth and by receiving the candidate status, we achieved significant progress in the arena of our country’s European aspirations.”
