Georgian Parliament Speaker meets Ukrainian PM

Georgian Parliament Speaker Kakha Kuchava, being on an official visit to Ukraine, met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal.

According to the parliamentary press service, the sides reviewed friendly and partnership relations and discussed common goals accentuating Euro-Atlantic integration aspiration and de-occupation. The two speakers also focused talks on cooperation intensification in trade-economic relations and tourism.

The meeting also touched on the issue of Mikheil Saakashvili, ex-Georgian President and Head of the Executive Committee of the National Council of Reforms in Ukraine.

“This is the moment that creates embarrassment between the two countries. They (Ukrainians) did not know about his plans to illegally cross borders both in Ukraine and Georgia and the awkward situation, in general. Both sides unilaterally underlined that never and nobody, including the former president, will ever become a reason or a ground to slightly worsen the relations between our countries,” Kakha Kuchava said after the meeting.

Mikheil Saakashvili was arrested on October 1 in Tbilisi and sent to Rustavi Prison.
