Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates 100,000 Martyrs

On 13 November, the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Hundred Thousand Martyrs slain by the Khwarezmians in Tbilisi in 1227.

Eight centuries ago, after the capture of Tbilisi, 100,000 Martyrs who refused to renounce Christianity and desecrate Christian relics were beheaded and thrown into the Mtkvari River.

Metropolitan Shio Mujiri and perishers performed a litany on the Metekhi Bridge to commemorate the martyrs.
