Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates Transfiguration of Jesus

Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates Transfiguration of Jesus on August 19. Priest Ilia Nasidze and the clergy conducted a solemn church service at the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral in Tbilisi.

The Transfiguration is among the twelve greatest religious holidays. It is related to one of the famous episodes of the life of Lord Jesus Christ when the Savior showed his divine nature to his three apostles: Peter, Jacob and Johan, transfigured and became radiant in glory upon a mountain.

The parishioners bring grapes and fruits to the churches to be blessed. The practice signifies the final transfiguration of all things in Christ our Savior.
