Georgian Justice Minister, Rati Bregadze signed the Council of Europe AI Convention on Thursday.
The Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and human rights, democracy and the rule of law is the first-ever international legally binding treaty in this field. It aims to ensure that activities within the lifecycle of artificial intelligence systems are fully consistent with human rights, democracy and the rule of law, while being conducive to technological progress and innovation.
Rati Bregadze stated that the Justice Ministry prioritises, on the one hand, the adoption of contemporary technologies, and on the other, the development of suitable legislative laws to ensure that the use of technology and artificial intelligence is fully compliant with human rights norms. “The Ministry of Justice will establish the AI Centre for Law.”
Representatives from the EU, the US, the United Kingdom, Andorra, Iceland, Norway, Israel, San Marino, and Moldova signed the aforementioned Convention, in addition to Georgia.
