Georgian Interior Minister: Agreement signed with Germany provides for orderly migration of skilled workforce, simplification of work visas
“The agreement on migration and mobility signed between the governments of Georgia and Germany aims to reduce illegal migration, cooperation in circular labour sphere and sharing experience in education,” said Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri.
Vakhtang Gomelauri thanked the German Federal Minister of the Interior and Community, Nancy Faeser, for paying her first official visit to Georgia and for supporting Georgia.
He remarked that Germany’s putting Georgia on the list of safe countries confirms Georgia is a democratic state where the government ensures the protection of human rights and successfully carries out reforms in response to visa-free travel and challenges.
“The agreement stipulates that the sides will cooperate in the fight against illegal migration, trafficking, and misuse of visas. The document also aims to protect the returned migrants from discrimination and ensure their reintegration,” said Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs.
According to Gomelauri, the agreement includes provisions to make it easier to obtain work visas and dismissed any claims that Georgian citizens would face deportation from Germany.
“The mission has been carried out for years, and it will continue. It is a lie that our citizens will be forced to leave Germany or would be deported,” he said.
Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri and German Federal Minister of the Interior and Community, Nancy Faeser, signed an agreement on migration and mobility on December 19.
