Georgian folklorist Anzor Erkomaishvili dies of COVID-19

Renowned Georgian folklorist, founder, and leader of the ensemble Rustavi, Anzor Erkomaishvili, 80, has died of coronavirus on Wednesday.

Erkomaishvili was hospitalized at the First University Clinic in the capital Tbilisi after contracted coronavirus. He required mechanical ventilation.

Anzor Erkomaishvili was a prominent singer, composer, researcher, and publisher of Georgian records for various archives around the world. He founded famous Georgian ensembles – Rustavi and Martve.

Top Georgian officials, including the Georgian President, Prime Minister, Parliament Speaker, expressed condolences over his death. They believe Anzor Erkomaishvili’s contribution to Georgian culture is invaluable.
