Georgian FM hopes EU recognizes Georgia's steadfast struggle for freedom and democracy properly

Georgia’s Independence Day is a day of remembrance for the heroes who sacrificed their lives for freedom, independence and the right to self-determination. It is also a day of hope that their devotion will not vanish without a trace, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili addressed the audience at the event dedicated to the Independence Day of Georgia at the City Hall building in Brussels.

According to the FM, marking Independence Day has higher importance this year, as Georgia made an official application for EU membership. “It is a logical continuation of the country’s steadfast effort aimed at the comeback to the European family,” he added.

As Darchiashvili emphasized, Georgia faced many challenges over the last 30 years, but it has succeeded and become a successful example of democratic transformation in the region.

“This success would have been unimaginable without Georgia’s consistent aspirations for European and Euro-Atlantic integration,” FM added.

FM expressed hope that the EU would properly recognize Georgia’s steadfast struggle for freedom and democracy.

The event dedicated to the Independence Day of Georgia took place in the City Hall building at the central square of Brussels on June 2.
