Georgian Finance Ministry Investigation Service participates in Europol operation against medication falsification
The Investigation Service of the Georgian Finance Ministry participated in a coordinated operation of the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation targeting trafficking of counterfeit and misused medications and doping substances, the agency announced on Monday.
According to its statement, the law enforcement officers seized over 10.5 million medication products, exposed 59 criminal groups, apprehended 349 suspects, shut down 10 underground labs and seized a large amount of misused, falsified or counterfeit medications, doping products and substances, illegal food, sport supplements, fake Covid-19 vaccines, sanitary products and medical devices.
Along with agencies of France, Greece, Italy and Spain, with the effort involving police and customs authorities from 28 countries, Georgia made a “significant contribution” to the said operation, reads the statement.
