Georgian Dream's initiative implies to tighten sanctions against officials who try to impede justice

“When two Presidents – former and incumbent – speak in one voice, it is up to the society to decide whether this is a coincidence or a political goal. We think this is more a political synchrony, where Margvelashvili is trying and his political task is to take Saakashvili out of the crimes he has committed” – said Mamuka Mdinaradze, chairperson of the Georgian Dream faction, at a press conference today. Mdinaradze introduced the media representative with the initiative on “Girgvliani amendments”.

Mamuka Mdinaradze did not specified the details, however noted that sanctions will be tightened against the representatives of state authorities who intentionally try to impede administration of justice.

“Our faction starts working on a package of legislative initiatives, which, on the one hand, provides a high standard of protection of citizens from the state violence and on the other hand, ensures the integrity of justice – which is the main essence of the amendments. Of course, the new regulation cannot be applied to the old cases and will only apply to the current and future governments. These amendments can be symbolically called “Girgvliani amendments”, – Mdinaradze said.

“Sanction for such a crime was 4 years and then was decreased by amnesty to 3 years. We think that sanctions should be tightened in this direction. It cannot be predicted how many years it will be, but it will be much tougher,” Mamuka Mdinaradze said.
