Georgian Agriculture Minister meets EU Commissioner for Environment
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Shamugia met with the European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius as part of his working visit to Brussels.
The meeting focused on Georgia’s success on its European integration path, according to the ministry’s press office.
Otar Shamugia provided the European Commissioner with detailed information about the environmental reforms.
“Protection of biodiversity and waste pollution is a major concern for Georgia and virtually the entire planet. As a result, the nation’s top goal is to build the necessary legislative frameworks.
As per the European Union legislation, and with the EU support, a waste management system has been introduced in the country, ensuring the prevention of waste generation.
Sinkevičius praised Georgia’s environmental measures and the country’s progress towards EU membership,” reads the press statement.
