Georgia to introduce international standard weather forecasting and early warning system in 2025

The Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia, attended the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Environmental Agency of Georgia and the Finnish Meteorological Institute in Helsinki, Finland.

During his working visit, Shamugia met with Peter Taalas, Director General of the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), where they discussed the significance of the memorandum and the importance of strengthening cooperation between Georgia and Finland to combat climate change.

“With your support, this memorandum will enable us to modernize meteorological and environmental observation networks, update equipment and laboratories, and develop weather, climate, and air quality modelling and forecasting systems.

Additionally, it will help modernize the early warning service platform, create new services and products for the public and stakeholders, and improve research methods and tools related to climate change,” stated Otar Shamugia.
