Georgia will host World Tourism Day 2024 under the auspices of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on September 27. This marks the first time the event will be held in the country, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported.
The UNWTO has chosen “peace” as the central theme for this year’s celebration.
The event is expected to attract high-level delegates from around the globe, including tourism ministers, representatives from international organizations, and industry experts who will participate in various panel discussions.
“Hosting World Tourism Day in Georgia will significantly enhance the country’s recognition in the international tourism arena,” the Ministry stated.
The decision for Georgia to host the event was unanimously endorsed by 38 members of the European Commission of the UNWTO in the spring of 2023.
World Tourism Day has been celebrated annually since 1980 on September 27, commemorating the adoption of the Statutes of the Organization in 1970.
