Georgia to chair EPTA in 2024

The Georgian Training Center of Justice will chair the European Penitentiary Training Academies Network (EPTA) for a 1-year term in 2024 and host the EPTA annual conference next year.

Georgia’s chairmanship decision was made in Tallinn, Estonia, at the 2023 EPTA annual meeting.

“Under the auspices of the EPTA chair, the Justice Training Center would have the opportunity to promote the establishment of innovative training methods and high professional standards in the penitentiary system,” said the Georgian Ministry of Justice.

The EPTA was established in 2010. It unites 36 member states of the Council of Europe. The heads of some European Penitentiary Staff Training Academies founded it to provide a structure that can support the sharing of effective training methodologies and contents across Europe.
