Georgia-Spain driving license agreement to take effect on September 29

The agreement On Mutual Recognition and Exchange of National Driving Licenses between Georgia and the Kingdom of Spain will come into effect on September 29 this year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

The Ministry notes that detailed information regarding the agreement and its implementation has been published on the official website of the Ministry of Justice of Spain. Once the agreement is in force, holders of valid driving licenses issued by either country will be able to obtain a corresponding driver’s license in their country of legal residence without the need for theoretical or practical exams.

The agreement specifies which classes of driving licenses can be exchanged without exams: classes AM, A1, A2, A, B, and B+E. However, for licenses in classes C1, C1+E, C, C+E, D1, D1+E, D, and D+E, applicants will need to pass a driving test on public roads using the appropriate vehicles.

The agreement was signed in April during an official visit to Spain by Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri.
