Georgia ranks 38th in WJP Rule of Law Index

Georgia ranks 38th (0.61 overall score) out of 113 countries in the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2017-2018 published on Wednesday.

According to Georgia’s Ministry of Justice, Georgia is at the first place among the Eastern European and central Asian region countries.

According to the state agency, among the 13 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Georgia is leading in the following factors:  Absence of Corruption, Constraints on Government Powers and Regulatory Enforcement (law / decision).

According to the index, in the Absence of Corruption component Georgia is leading with 0.71 points in the region and occupies the 23rd position in the global rank.

Georgia also has one of the highest points in terms of Order and Security – the 30th ranking worldwide.

According to the Rule of Law Index, Georgia is ahead of countries such as Greece (39), Hungary (50), Bulgaria (55), Ukraine (77) and others.

The WJP Rule of Law Index measures rule of law adherence in 113 countries and jurisdictions worldwide based on more than 110,000 household and 3,000 expert surveys. Featuring primary data, the WJP Rule of Law Index measures countries’ rule of law performance across eight factors: Constraints on Government Powers, Absence of Corruption, Open Government, Fundamental Rights, Order and Security, Regulatory Enforcement, Civil Justice, and Criminal Justice.
