The football match Georgia vs. Greece opened with observing one minute of silence. Football players of both teams commemorated victims of the Batumi residential building collapsing incident. Players came out on the field wearing black armbands.
The Georgian Football Federation (GFF) officially applied to FIFA and UEFA with request to postpone the match. However, the match organizers did not satisfy the application.
In relation to the tragedy caused by the collapse of a residential block on May 26 Street in Batumi, the football was held without spectators at the stadium in Batumi, as the Interagency Coordination Council decided.
The previous decision made by the Coordination Council for 33% of seats to be occupied by spectators at the stadium was declared void.
Only the Greek delegation, which already arrived in Batumi, was allowed to attend the game at the stadium, along with GFF representatives.
