Georgia joins EU in extending Russia sanctions over Crimea annexation
Georgia, along with four other countries, has joined the EU in extending restrictive measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol.
The Council Decision extends the existing restrictive measures until 23 June 2022.
“The Candidate Countries Macedonia and Albania, the EFTA country Norway, member of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine and Georgia align themselves with this Council Decision. They will ensure that their national policies conform to this Council Decision. The European Union takes note of this commitment and welcomes it,” the Council of the EU stated.
Since March 2014, the EU has progressively imposed restrictive measures against Russia. The measures were adopted in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and the deliberate destabilization of Ukraine.
