Georgia has Germany’s full support on EU integration path, Speaker says
Georgia has full support of Germany on path of the EU integration, said Shalva Papuashvili, Parliament Speaker when summing up the Georgian parliamentary delegation’s visit in Berlin.
Speaker Papuashvili remarked that the delegation received clear messages.
“First, Germany views the EU further enlargement as a result-oriented process rather than a process for process. Candidacy is important, then negotiations. EU membership will follow all this.
Second, Germany sees EU from Lisbon to Tbilisi. This is a vision that should be a practical part of the expansion policy and the goal, and this space has to be used.
Third, we have heard from many that the decision made in June when Georgia was not granted a candidate status, was incorrect and it could have been better that Georgia received the status together with Ukraine and Moldova. Therefore, it is significant to make this decision on the next step of decision-making,” Papuashvili stated.
Parliament Speaker added that Georgia is important as a country, which should ensure peace in the region. Georgia, which is located in the middle corridor between Asia and Europe, is significant for EU energy independence.
Headed by the Speaker, the Georgian parliamentary delegation paid a visit to Germany for bilateral meetings with high-ranking officials in Berlin.
