Georgia FM: Government committed to transparent, competitive elections
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, highlighted that one of the parts of the action plan for the implementation of the EU recommendations is to ensure a free, fair, and competitive election process, especially in 2024. Also, part of the action plan includes fully taking into account the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR and completing electoral reforms well before the election day.
According to Darchiashvili, the Georgian government expressed its willingness to closely cooperate with ODIHR, the main organization observing elections.
“An official notification will be sent to ODIHR at the beginning of the year, expressing readiness to accept both long-term and short-term observation missions for the parliamentary elections scheduled for October. The Georgian government has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to conducting transparent and competitive elections in the country, considering this as a top priority. In this regard, the government expresses its willingness to collaborate with all stakeholders involved in this significant process,” he added.
