Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó have signed an agreement titled “On Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investments between the Government of Georgia and the Government of Hungary.”
This agreement aims to boost trade and economic cooperation between the two nations and create new opportunities for bilateral investment.
During his visit to Hungary, Darchiashvili met with Szijjártó both one-on-one and in an extended format. He congratulated Szijjártó on Hungary’s presidency of the European Union and expressed gratitude for Hungary’s steadfast support of Georgia’s foreign policy objectives.
The Foreign Ministers discussed Georgia’s European Union integration process, emphasizing that joining the EU remains a top priority for Georgia’s foreign policy. Darchiashvili reaffirmed the Georgian government’s commitment to advancing reforms and working actively towards EU membership. They also highlighted the importance of enhancing connectivity in the Black Sea region, which is increasingly crucial in the current geopolitical climate for providing alternative transport routes.
“The discussions covered future steps to strengthen our partnership across various sectors, supported by the strategic framework established between our countries,” said Darchiashvili. “We focused on cooperation in trade, economy, energy, and other fields. The impressive economic performance of Georgia was acknowledged, and the ongoing high-level exchanges were positively assessed.”
The meeting also addressed security challenges, with both sides reiterating their support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
