GD's Samkharadze sees opposition's $14 billion claim as pre-election deception aimed at misleading society
“The claim of $14 billion is merely a pre-election ploy; the opposition seeks to deceive the Georgian people,” stated Nikoloz Samkharadze, the parliamentary majority member.
According to Samkharadze, the intent behind this assertion is transparently misguided, particularly in the context of Georgia’s aspirations to join the European Union (EU).
“This is absurd. They could just as easily assert that we lost $14 trillion as a country. This is a pre-election stunt, and I am uncertain who it is intended to persuade; however, it is evident that this rhetoric serves a purpose before we accede to the EU. The $14 billion figure represents the seven-year budget for countries that are already in negotiations. Notably, this does not even account for Ukraine and Moldova. Thus, it becomes apparent why such slenderly supported claims are being made. They aim to mislead the Georgian public into believing that if they gain power, the European Union will provide us with $14 billion,” Samkharadze elaborated.
