GD's Mdinaradze: Opposition must resign after parliamentary recognition if they truly want to reject

Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of Georgian Dream, has not dismissed the possibility that opposition representatives may join parliament during its first session.

As Mdinaradze elaborated, if opposition MPs genuinely intend to leave parliament, they must submit resignation statements after their authority has been officially recognized.

He emphasized that their initial resignation statements, which were made before their powers were formally acknowledged, lack legal validity.

“My personal expectation is that many of them may enter parliament during the very first session. If they truly want to quit, they should submit new resignation statements once their authority is recognized by parliament. However, we do not anticipate this happening, as they drafted their initial statements before the recognition of their powers to avoid vacating parliament and losing their mandates. If this situation changes, we will find out in a few days. They are misleading their voters by suggesting they are voluntarily excluding themselves from parliament. We’ll see if they keep their word. They can submit such statements as early as November 25,” Mdinaradze concluded.
