“None from the United National Movement (UNM) party arrived in Shovi to inspect the situation. Their remote conclusions indicate their actual goals and intentions,” said Givi Mikanadze, the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party member.
Givi Mikanadze’s remark came as a reaction to the statement of Levan Khabeishvili, Chairman of the United National Movement (UNM), who said that the party’s 11-member group arrived in the landslide-ravaged Shovi resort and prepared an interim report covering the period from August 3 to 15, which revealed the indifference of high-ranking officials.
“The National Movement tries to use every situation, including such a great tragedy, to instil anger in the society against the strong Prime Minister and the government and raise questions. National Movement has completely lost trust in society. Any statement they make causes distrust,” he said.
The death toll in the landslide-ravaged Shovi resort of the Oni Municipality rose to 28 on August 21.
A deadly landslide struck the resort on August 3.
