GD Executive Secretary: Need to distinguish between human rights and non-traditional propaganda
Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, expressed his concerns about the conflation of rights protection and propaganda. He stated that they must make a clear distinction between the promotion of non-traditional values and the protection of human rights.
Mdinaradze emphasized that Georgians have a unique perspective on these issues, characterized by a strong tradition of tolerance as well as the protection of family values.
“In 2017, we wrote in the constitution that the family is the union of a man and a woman. It was made to guard against the potential introduction of same-sex marriage legalization in Georgia. We observed a trend in many European legislations, including in some of our ally countries, to legalize same-sex marriage. Georgians hold a distinct perspective: while we have a strong tradition of tolerance, we have always safeguarded our family traditions and values,” he said
Mdinaradze believes that while individuals are free to choose their lifestyle, their choice should not impact how others treat them or cause any differential approach. He argued that rights should be universally protected, but also that there is a need to safeguard family values and future generations.
Mdinaradze reiterated the importance of maintaining clear boundaries between the promotion of non-traditional values and human rights protection.
